Rollama Relaunch!

We've made a number of big upgrades to Rollama for the 2026/27 academic year; so many that we're proud to call it a relaunch! Everything is live on the site now, ready for you to get rolling.

Here are just three of the things we've added:

1) Spelling Snapshots - you'll be able to select a range of spelling topics and build a mini assessment to get an overview of strengths and weaknesses, for individuals and across the whole class.

We are very pleased with the feedback for Sporty Spelling after one year of use. To enhance this area, we decided that a bespoke spelling diagnostic and review assessment feature would be a useful complement to the existing Rollama Spelling Scheme and custom Word Lists.

In Snapshots, you select the spelling topics and objectives, then let our system choose a sample of words from each. Your pool of words will be used to drive a series of spelling mini-games, from which you'll able to see profiency at-a-glance across the range of learning points you selected.

You'll also be able to easily choose a list of insecure words which your students have misspelled frequently in the past.

Student view:

Students will see a simplified menu in comparison to the Sporty Spelling activities. To be an effective assessment tool, we removed the scaffolding of the word list info sheet, look-cover-write, etc, without removing the fun and motivation of the spelling games themselves.

We know the site was a bit rough in terms of presentation and bugs in the early days. We've come a long way since our home page looked like this:

2) Another feature for August 2026 is the 'Training Treehouse' - a hub of personalised tasks for recap and reinforcement.

Each student will receive five daily activities that are tailored to their past performance - prompting them to retry unfinished activities, try a harder level of objectives they've completed, or address an area of weakness. It'll be fully automated and accessible by default, so there is no extra workload for teachers.

We've also tied this to Sporty Spelling by curating a pool of words for each student which may require revision. This way, you can direct them to personalised exercises to fill in gaps in their knowledge.

We're also enhancing our morphology resources with a new dedicated game mode for word-building. Watch this space for more updates soon.

We have a lot more upgrades for the student side, for motivation and ease of navigation for younger users, including:

• The 'My Tasks' hub, which reduces the number of menu options and puts their assignments in one place;

• A new multiplayer games hub for better access to all our content in co-operative and competitive game modes for 2, 3 or 4 players;

• 'Dusty' medals, whereby old achievements grow cobwebs which can be removed by replaying the game, to keep mastery top-of-mind;

• 'Shiny' medals, which are for exceptionally high scores - a way to stretch the most dedicated Rollama players with a deluxe ultra medal when they double the target score, or finish without any errors;

• 'Text to speech' for Check-Ups mode (and more) – we've added a button to speak questions aloud, if younger users are not able to read the question for themselves;

• Multiple new game modes, including 'Crack the Code' and 'Spelling Snooker';

3) Our brand new Morpholohy Suite, including new game mode 'Morphology Matrix' and 'Chop Chop!'

We've totally overhauled our morphology resources and rebuilt them with two new game modes. In Morphology Matrix, players build words using prefixes, bases and suffixes, learning new vocabulary and embedding rules around dropping -e and -y for the -ing suffix, doubling consonants, and highlighting connector vowels.

Morphology Matrix also has a sibling game, 'Chop Chop!', in which players divide given words into morphemes. Practising these games together will help familiarise students with an important range of bases and affixes, as we cover over 30 base words, and dozens of prefixes and suffixes (and still counting!).
